Facilitation for Community Engagement

Facilitation for Community Engagement

Empower your community engagement efforts with skills to promote honest, open communication. Mastering productive facilitation is crucial in today’s landscape, where dialogue is often challenged by various societal pressures. This workshop offers a structured approach to meaningful conversations, allowing participants to navigate divisive issues with confidence, clarity, and skill.

About the Course

Overview

The long-term health of an organization and/or community hinges upon its members’ willingness and ability to engage in honest and open communication. One of the most effective methods for sharing data, expressing perceptions and discussing values is to invite open communication at robust community meetings. However, for many reasons, leading effective community engagement efforts has become increasingly difficult. Many leaders and/or participants are mired in a “win-lose” mentality, constrained by limited resources, and impeded by distrust and impatience. This course provides a clear and effective meeting structure that allows organizers to constructively conduct public conversations with clarity, courage and skill.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to

  • Design an environment for the productive discussion of divisive community problems
  • Anticipate and plan for possible problems during the meeting
  • Facilitate through challenging moments with more confidence
  • Diffuse us vs. them dynamics by establishing a baseline of mutual understanding

Who should take this course

This course is beneficial to leaders, organizers, and participants who facilitate discussion, collaborate on community initiatives, and seek to overcome challenges such as limited resources, distrust, and impatience that hinder engagement efforts. Additionally, professionals from diverse sectors, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and grassroots community groups, can gain valuable skills in conducting public conversations with clarity, courage, and skill.
