About the Course

Overview

Fundamentals of Employment Law teaches supervisors and managers to increase awareness and understanding of basic employment laws. The course will cover workplace activities, aid in avoiding typical legal pitfalls and offer strategies to steer away from legal jeopardy. Participants explore federal statutes such as:

  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act.
  • Family Leave and Medical Leave Act.
    Americans With Disabilities Act.
  • Equal employment opportunity.
  • Occupational safety.
  • Employee wages and benefits.
  • Discrimination and harassment, hiring and termination of workers, collective bargaining, immigration and other critical topics.

Participants review the provisions and updates within selected laws, the duties and responsibilities for application of those provisions, and the effect of those laws on the workers they supervise. Students will examine case studies, identify available organizational resources, and learn strategies for utilizing the laws in the performance of their roles.
