Ideal for individuals aiming to deepen their expertise through collaboration, this workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of communities of practice, from historical roots to modern applications, enabling participants to leverage collaboration for innovation and problem-solving.

About the Course

Overview

A community of practice (CoP) is a group of individuals who share a passion for something they know how to do and who regularly interact to learn how to do it better. Whether at work or within their communities, most people belong to CoPs and engage in practice activities to further those domains. The purpose of this training is to increase participants’ awareness of the use of CoPs and to further develop their ability to create a network of like-minded thinkers as a resource for problem solving.

This one or two-day, experiential course includes the history of CoPs, their purpose, and the many benefits of participating in them. The course also provides a variety of resources and practice activities as well as the opportunity for participants to identify and discuss their current problems, concerns, and challenges. Participants will engage in group exercises, individual exercises, instructor-led discussion, reflection, action planning, and more.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to

  • Define a community of practice (CoP)
  • Identify how and when to use a CoP
  • Apply course concepts to develop their own CoP
